Mortgage Assistance Helps CWA Member Shoulder Mortgage Payments While Disabled

The harsh Connecticut winter can be hard on the body of an installation repair technician like Communications Workers of America Local 1298 member Dave Zalonski, who works outside most of the time.

Zalonski, who bought his home through the CWA Union Plus Mortgage Program is grateful that the program not only made it easy and affordable for him to own the roof over his head , but helped him keep it there when he had two long stretches on disability three years apart.

"Both earlier this year and in 2003 I was out for several months due to a shoulder injury. Each time the no-interest loans I got from Union Plus allowed me to make my mortgage payments, gave me a great deal of peace of mind and allowed me to focus on getting better," Zalonski, 41, says.

The Mortgage Assistance Program helps Union Plus mortgage holders when a strike, lockout, layoff, illness or disability makes making mortgage payments difficult. Interest free loans (or straight payments during long-term strikes) help when members need it most. The program has provided more than $3 million to help union members.

CWA Union Plus Mortgage is available to CWA members and their parents and children. To speak to a mortgage counselor, call 1-800-848-6466 or visit UnionPlus.org/Mortgage.
