ver.di and CWA are working together and have formed TU, a joint global union representing T-Mobile workers in Germany and the U.S. German workers and citizens are appalled by Deutsche Telekom’s double standard: T-Mobile workers in Germany have full bargaining rights and workers’ rights are respected by management, contrary to the fear and harassment workers face in the U.S.

CWA is urgently calling on Congress to extend key improvements to the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), the program that provides aid to workers whose jobs have been outsourced overseas.
Without action by Congress, the improvements to TAA, passed as part of the 2009 economic recovery package and extended in December, will expire this weekend. CWA President Larry Cohen has called on every member of Congress to act.

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is the only international human rights treaty to focus exclusively on the rights of women. To date, it has only been ratified 186 of 193 countries worldwide. Sadly missing, like Iran, Somalia and Sudan, is the United States. The treaty protects fundamental rights, addressing violence against women, the right to vote, sex trafficking, and access to education among other important issues to women.

The AFL-CIO and Mexico’s independent labor federation UNT, Unión Nacional de Trabajadores, have signed a joint action plan to help rebuild the industrial base in the United States and Mexico, ensure workers’ rights and coordinate bargaining across borders. The agreement builds on years of joint work between U.S. and Mexican unions, in particular, CWA’s long working relationship with STRM, the independent union of telephone workers.
