Passenger service agents at American Airlines were hit with a devastating reorganization plan yesterday that will affect nearly 10,000 agents. Agents face layoffs, outsourcing, the loss of wages and benefits, being forced to work from home for no benefits, and likely even more cuts in the future as they are the only major workgroup at the airline without union representation.

In a full page ad in Politico, the Communications Workers of America salute the members of Congress who stood up for the rights of workers, against Delta Air Lines, Republican leadership and other special interests.
Although the long-term Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization bill, which has been a priority for CWA, passed with provisions included that amount to a vicious attack on workers' rights, 157 House members and 15 Senators stood with workers and said no.

Today, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) announces new radio ads targeting Republican freshmen Representatives Chip Cravaack (MN-08) and Sean Duffy (WI-07) over their role in blocking passage of a long-term Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill due to an unrelated provision about union elections. As a result of a continued impasse over the unrelated provision about National Mediation Board (NMB) election rules, the FAA faces another shutdown on January 31st unless an agreement can be forged.

In the nation's largest union election in years, Flight Attendants at New United voted this week for representation with the AFA-CWA.
The National Mediation Board election covers nearly 25,000 air safety professionals at the merged airlines, joining 9,000 Continental and Continental Micronesia Flight Attendants formerly represented by the Machinists (IAM), and 16,000 AFA-CWA members from United.
