35,000 AFA-CWA Members in Bargaining this Year
March 1, 2009
Nearly two-thirds of AFA's 50,000 members — 35,000 flight attendants at 13 airlines — are currently engaged in bargaining or preparing for negotiations. The critical issue for them, as for flight attendants at United, is rebuilding a hard-hit profession where workers are dealing with rollbacks in wages, benefits and working conditions.
First contract negotiations will begin shortly for Lynx Aviation and Ryan International flight attendants, who voted in January for AFA-CWA representation.
Negotiations are continuing at Air Tran, Air Wisconsin, US Airways/ America West, American Eagle, Horizon, Mesa, Miami, Midwest, Piedmont, PSA and Spirit.
In February, AFA-CWA members at Alaska Airlines ratified a two-year agreement. As the CWA News went to press, flight attendants at Hawaiian Airlines were voting on a tentative contract.
