140 former AT&T Wireless employees organize Cingular Wireless Retail Sales Unit in Maryland
A group of 140 former AT&T Wireless employees now making up Cingular Wireless's retail sales unit in Maryland organized with CWA on Sept. 20. They will be represented by CWA Local 2107. The American Arbitration Association officially certified union recognition for the group on Sept. 20.
The workers are the seventh statewide group of Cingular Wireless retail sales employees from AT&T Wireless who have sought and gained union representation with CWA since August 2005.
Retail sales workers from AT&T Wireless have also organized Cingular stores and retail outlets in New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York and Rhode Island.
The workers were assisted in their campaign by CWA Local 2107 organizers Lynette Snell and Pam Wilt. Support also came from Local 2107 President Denise Burns and District 2 Staff Representative Jimmy Tarlau.
More than 5,000 former AT&T Wireless employees have organized with CWA at Cingular Wireless, raising the number of CWA-represented workers at the company to over 27,000.
