2,042 former AT&T Wireless Workers at Cingular Organize 2 Call Centers & 158 Retail Outlets in TX, C

In two of their busiest weeks of organizing, 2,042 former AT&T Wireless workers at Cingular gained CWA representation at two business call centers in Paramus, New Jersey and Cerritos, California, and at 325 retail/telesales locations in Texas, Oregon and Indiana.

These latest union recognitions, occurring between Nov. 16 and Nov. 28, bring to 13,540 the number of former AT&T Wireless employees who have organized with CWA this year. All but 278 of these workers have gained CWA representation since the first week of August, organizing at a pace of more than 100 a day.

  • In Indiana, 58 retails sales representatives at 17 stores gained recognition with CWA Local 4900 on Nov. 16. Assisting the workers were Local Vice President Bob Browder, Cingular Area Rep. Brett Jarrett, Vice President Barry Ostrom, and Cingular Stewards Tom Cunningham and Adam Hayes. IUE-CWA Local 768 Organizer Cheryl Baker helped workers build majority support.

  • In Cerritos, CA, 129 business service representatives gained representation with CWA on Nov. 18. Locals 9400 and 9510, which represents Cingular Wireless employees in both retail and customer service, assisted the workers. Providing support were, from Local 9400, Jeff Finley, Marj Terflinger, Judy Perez, Frank Rapue and Marco Ramirez and, from Local 9510, Peter O'Brien, Mark Summers, Patrica Hudson, Dominque Thomas and Kenny Washington.

  • In Oregon, 195 retail sales representatives at 26 stores gained representation on Nov. 21. Locals 7901 and 1706 assisted the workers. Providing support from Local 7901 were organizers Jeanne Carpenter and Michelle Garza and, from Local 7906, president Ken Saether.

  • In Paramus, NJ, 872 business representatives gained representation with Local 1101 on Nov. 28. Assisting the workers were Local 1101 President Jim Trainor, Heather Trainor, Keith Purce, and Dan Levitan worked on this effort, assisted by Organizing Coordinators Erin Bowie and Tim Dubnau.

  • In Texas, 788 retail sales associates at 113 stores and 2 telesales workgroups gained representation with CWA on Nov. 28. Seventeen locals supported the workers' drive: Locals 6733, 6200, 6210, 6201, 6150, 6215, 6214, 6118, 6139, 6222, 6137, 6110, 6143, 6132, 6174, 6206 and 6225. Assisting the workers were Gerry Alonzo-Laredo; Charlie Torres-Corpus Christie; Debra Alexander and Cassandra Tyson-Houston; Linda Perez-San Antonio; Richard McCullough, Brandon Gaoonagphet, Nate Crouse, Mary Mikan, Zack Carberry from Austin; Randy Agee, Joey Agee and Brian Goonan from Temple; John Duncan-Waco; Ann Margaret Sanchez, Patricia Nicoles, Catherine-El Paso; John Richie-Wichita Falls; Rhonda McElmurry-Tyler; Melanie Brooks-Kileen; Al Dolley-Longview; Greg Hacker- Dennison; and Gilbert Alba, Ann McQueary, Al Hunte, Daryl Russell from Dallas/Fort Worth. District staff support came from Sandy Rusher, Sylvia Ramos, Currie Hallford, Gloria Parra, Madelene Robertson, John Marshall, and Danny Fetonte.
