214 More Former AT&T Wireless Workers Organize with CWA: 191 Retail Sales Associates in IL & 23 Netw
The drive by former AT&T Wireless employees to gain CWA representation at Cingular Wireless closed out September on a strong note, with 214 additional workers – Retail Sales Associates and Network Technicians – organizing in Illinois and Maryland.
In Illinois, a majority of Cingular's 191 retail sales associates from AT&T Wireless supported CWA in the card check, gaining certification from the American Arbitration Association ( AAA) on Sept. 30.
CWA Local 4202 gained representation for 191 Cingular Retails Sales Consultants in Illinois. AAA certified the unit on September 30th, according to Susan Baxter-Fleming, Admin. Asst. to the District 6 Vice President. Supported by Local 4202 organizer Maureen Ehlert, the workers were assisted by Local 4202 President Holly Sorey and Executive Board members Tracy Colquitt, Kathy Einstein, Lisa Lutey, Kitria Smith, Mike Stafford, Richie Stewart and Deanna Warren.
Long-time CWA-represented members at Cingular Wireless – Kitira Smith, Richie Stewart and Deanna Warren – talked one on one with the retail sales associates, and worked with Ehlert in helping the workers build majority support for union representation throughout the state. Officers, staff and Sandy Hughes from IUE-CWA Local 84800 assisted sales associates in Rockford in building majority support.
In Maryland, the AAA recognized CWA Local 2107 as the bargaining representative for Cingular's statewide unit of 23 former AT&T Wireless network technicians. Local organizer Lynette Snell assisted the workers during their campaign, according to District 2 Organizing Coordinator Richard Verlander.
Since August, more than 6,100 of the former AT&T Wireless workers at Cingular have organized with CWA. Of that number, 1,372 are retail sales associates, 4,677 are customer and business care representatives, and 106 are network technicians.
