An overwhelming majority of Cingular's former AT&T Wireless retail sales associates in Maine chose representation with CWA Local 1400 in a card check. The American Arbitration Association certified the results on Oct. 11. More than 70 percent of the workers supported CWA representation, according to District 1 Organizing Coordinator Erin Bowie.

The workers had strong inside committees at nearly all of the Cingular stores, reported Local 1400 organizer Shelia McGillicuddy who assisted the sales associates.

Since the CWA-Cingular neutrality language governing organizing for Cingular's former AT&T Wireless workers went into effect this year, more than 6,000 of the workers have organized with CWA.

Since August, former AT&T Wireless workers at Cingular have organized in 21 states and the District of Columbia. The majority of these workers are in customer and business care (4,686), followed by retail sales (1,409), and network (162).
