Affordable Care Act Information

Below are three separate documents (one each in the second, third and fourth paragraph) with Q&As regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA), provided by CWA Research Director Louise Novotny.  If you have questions after reviewing the information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

More than 100 people attended the workshops about the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare) held at CWA’s Convention in Pittsburgh this past April.  There were good discussions and a lot of questions during the sessions.  Ongoing information about the ACA can be found at www.cwa-union.org/healthcare.

Attached here is a sheet that provides answers to questions about flexible spending accounts, coverage for dependent children, the excise tax on high-cost health plans and the treatment of benefits for highly-compensated employees. The electronic document includes hyperlinks to other sources for those who want to know more.

While we are concerned about the Administration relaxing pressure on employers to provide adequate health coverage, we are also aware that some of our own employers were having difficulties complying with some of the reporting requirements and looking for ways to avoid complying with the intent of the Affordable CAre Act to preserve employer-based health benefits. Read background on the mandate here .

A number of questions were raised recently about the Affordable Care Act - how are temporary workers covered? What about laid off workers or workers on disability? What about self-employed people?  We were also asked about the premium rates for plans available in the exchanges.  Find answers to these questions and more in this document.  Click on the links in the document to find further, more detailed information.

This information will also be sent via e-mail to all Local Presidents.
