Question: We're planning a rally. How do we get good media coverage?
Answer: First of all, you'll need to build a media list that includes newspapers, news radio and television stations, and wire service bureaus in your area. At each, find the reporter who covers your industry and labor and workplace issues. Get phone numbers for media outlets in the yellow pages or online. Then contact the media outlets to get phone numbers and e-mail addresses for the specific reporters. Then you'll want to prepare and send out a "Media Advisory" at least 2 days prior to your event and then follow up with phone calls to the reporters. (You can find a media advisory template on this website). For guidelines on media advisories and other tips, click here for our media guide.
