For CWA members of Local 6171, negotiations will reach a critical juncture this week when their contract expires August 11. Workers in the Southwest face the same push back from the company as workers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic: wages that don't keep up with the cost of living, attacks on pensions and job security, and higher healthcare costs.
To build solidarity and raise awareness of the crisis, workers held a barbecue on July 28. And on Black Monday, Verizon workers took black balloons to call centers and wore black armbands and ribbons to show their determination to stand up to Verizon’s attempts to kill middle-class jobs.
