Standing up for the right to sit

You sitting down?

For years, AT&T Mobility retail stores have required workers to stand for an entire shift. Hours on hours without relief, employees were stuck on their feet, even when a customer wanted to sit.

But as of winter 2013, after years of negotiating, Unity@Mobility successfully reached an agreement with AT&T. The company has agreed to redesign stores with “learning tables” that give customers and employees the option to sit down if customers also choose to be seated.

By the end of 2014, about 1,400 stores will have been redesigned to allow for these new tables. And more to come on the future.

The settlement also required AT&T to pay out $7 million to all employees -- that’s $250 per retail employee. The Preliminary Order granting approval for the settlement has been approved and pay-out will begin after September.

This settlement marks a major win for all retail workers, and a big step forward for Unity@Mobility when it comes to fighting for things you want. It’s proof that when we stand together, we can win on the things that matter most to you.

Thank you for being a part of it.
