CWA: Corzine is the Right Choice for N.J. Working Families

President Morton Bahr of the Communications Workers of America issued this statement about the New Jersey Senate race and CWA's continuing support for Democratic candidate Jon Corzine.

Jon Corzine has won the support and endorsement of working people across the state of New Jersey in his election bid for the U.S. Senate, because his message of access to quality education, health care and opportunity hits home. These are the issues important to working families; these are the goals that working families want their senator to seek to accomplish. That's why more than 100,000 CWA members and their families in New Jersey, in private and public employment, have enthusiastically backed Corzine.

CWA strongly supports Jon Corzine, not only because of this determination to improve health care and educational opportunities for all citizens, but because of his support for the concerns of working families, including an end to the permanent replacement of strikers, a living wage, improvements in family and medical leave, and a greater emphasis on fighting child labor around the globe.

Corzine has outlined a health care plan to expand coverage to all workers, many of whom now lack coverage, and to all children; to include prescription drug coverage as a part of Medicare; and to put in a place a real patients' bill of rights, so that medical and treatment decisions would be made by doctors and nurses, not insurance companies

His program for quality, universal education would ensure that all children, whether from poor neighborhoods or the wealthiest suburbs, would benefit from a first-rate education, and that funds would be available to help all citizens gain access to the college education or training programs they need.

Corzine's experience in the private sector investment community complements the role that government must play in ensuring that all citizens have access to the opportunities and the promise of America. Corzine would work to provide that opportunity, not just by increasing the availability of investment and capital for inner city and minority businesses, but by strengthening the laws that safeguard all of us.

This is a program working families need. That's why CWA families across the state are backing Jon Corzine.
