CWA Designates Former NMB Chairwoman Jacobsen as Union's Member on US Airways Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Communications Workers of America announced that it has designated Magdalena Jacobsen, former member and chairwoman of the National Mediation Board (NMB) to represent CWA passenger service agents on the US Airways board of directors.

CWA President Morton Bahr earlier notified the airline that he would resign from the board because the time pressures and responsibilities of leading the 700,000-member union prevented him from allocating sufficient time to the board of director's post.

"We are pleased to have someone with Maggie Jacobsen's background and stature representing the interests of CWA passenger service employees on the US Airways board," Bahr said. "We have had extensive discussions to familiarize her with our issues. She will be a strong addition to the board."

In Ms. Jacobsen's position with the NMB, she was instrumental in administering the Railway Labor Act, which governs employee relations in the railroad and airline industries.

"I am excited to be associated with CWA, an organization which has demonstrated that labor belongs in the board rooms of American industry through its innovative approach to change and its constructive voice for its members," said Jacobsen.

CWA represents 9,000 US Airways passenger service agents working in reservations centers, ticket offices and airports.
