CWA: Furman Committed to Restoring Economic Standing of Working Families

Washington, D.C. -- The following is a statement by CWA President Larry Cohen on President Obama’s nomination of Jason Furman as head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers:

“Jason Furman’s commitment to job creation and other financial programs that directly benefit working families is exactly the direction that the Council of Economic Advisers should follow.

"As chairman, Furman will bring his understanding of the role that government should play in stimulating economic growth and in addressing the economic inequality that now is damaging millions of working families.

"Working families shouldn’t be abandoned to the false promise of austerity and laissez faire capitalism, and Furman has expressed a commitment to collective bargaining rights as a public good that if expanded would help move our country toward ‘an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the very top,’ as President Obama has outlined."
