CWA to Continue Negotiations for Agents at US Airways

Passenger service representatives at US Airways, despite today's ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals, will continue to bargain for a first contract and fairness at the airline.

The Communications Workers of America, which represents some 10,000 agents at the airline, has been bargaining with US Airways and is very close to completing negotiations for that contract.

"We take Stephen Wolf, the airline's chief executive officer, at his word when he says, as he did just days ago at the airline's shareholders' meeting, that `I hope that we can conclude our discussions with the CWA in the near future,'" the union said.

Passenger service agents have not had a pay raise in nearly seven years; their pension and other benefits have been frozen as well, a situation that Wolf also acknowledged at the shareholders' meeting.

This lawsuit may be a delaying tactic, but it won't stop the momentum agents have built to gain a real voice at US Airways. CWA will pursue any legal and procedural steps necessary to bring this contract to a conclusion.
