CWAers Urged to Send 'We Are One' Message at May Day Rallies

Building on April 4's "We Are One" message, CWA is urging locals to join with immigrant rights activists in their communities for rallies and demonstrations across the country May 1.

Like the April 4 events, the May Day actions will bring unions, civil rights and social justice activists and many other progressive groups together. Events are being organized by immigrant rights groups, but will also focus on workers' rights and economic justice.

"We want to build on the relationships that made the April 4 'We Are One' rallies such a huge success across this country," CWA President Larry Cohen said. "All of us — workers, immigrants, students, retirees, people in need — are under assault. Individually, we can do very little. Together, we have the strength to fight back and win."

Scores of events are planned nationwide, from a farm worker solidarity march in Washington state to a gathering of 10,000 motorcyclists in Madison, Wis., to a giant May Day rally in New York City's Union Square, site of the first May Day march in the United States.

Go to CWA's event website, www.CWAAction.org, for a list of May 1 events. Check for updates regularly, as more events will be added.
