DOL: Today is Workers' Memorial Day. Join us for Our Commemoration!

David Michaels, PhD, MPH
Assistant Secretary
Occupational Safety and Health Administration
United State Department of Labor

Today is Workers’ Memorial Day, an opportunity to honor workers across the country who have been killed or injured on the job.  Read President Obama’s proclamation here.

I hope you will join me today at 2:00pm EST in the César E. Chávez Memorial Auditorium for a Workers’ Memorial Day commemoration, where we will re-dedicate ourselves to protecting the health, safety and dignity of America’s workforce. If you are unable to join us in person, you can view the webcast at http://labornet.dol.gov/media/

Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez and Joseph Main, Assistant Secretary for the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), will join me in delivering opening remarks.  We also look forward to hearing from Peg Seminario of the AFL-CIO and Sean Barrett, a terrazzo worker and victim of silica, on protecting workers from chemical hazards. At the conclusion of the program, we will walk to the memorial American Dogwood tree planted four years ago for a moment of silence in memory of the workers who have lost their lives on the job.

I hope you can join us for this commemoration.
