"From the Telegraph to the Internet": Bahr Marks CWA's 60th with Personal Account of CWA's Story to

From the Telegraph to the Internet written by CWA President Morton Bahr in commemoration of the union’s 60th anniversary, is a personal journal spanning five decades of trade union activism that combines equal parts of history, policy and vision. And the people and events that have molded CWA since 1938 form the story line for this unique snapshot of CWA’s history to date.

"Most importantly," Bahr notes in the book, "this is a story of, for and about the women and men who are CWA — past, present and future . . . a story of the commitment, the dedication, the hopes, the dreams, the courage and the accomplishments of CWA members throughout North America."

Bahr said he decided to write the book because "the CWA story is a story that needs to be told."

"For too long, the labor movement has allowed other interests — many of which are anti-labor in nature — to define us," he said. "A generation has grown up and gone through our educational system without knowing what labor is really about and the enormous impact that the labor movement has had on America and the world as we know it today."

Bahr said he feels strongly that if the labor movement is to be successfully passed on to the next generation, "we have to take our story to the people and we must be the messengers."

"In a real sense, we are going to have to be public educators when it comes to telling labor’s story and educating the American public," Bahr said. "No union has a more compelling story to tell and is better equipped to take on this mission than CWA. That is the spirit in which I wrote this book."
