Ohio Petition Drive

Ohio's rapidly growing "Good Jobs, Strong Communities" coalition is planning a massive rally at the state capitol next Thursday, May 5, to address the broad array of legislative assaults hurting workers and working families.

From Senate Bill 5, stripping collective bargaining from public workers, to budget cuts threatening schools, public safety, social services and the very quality of life in Ohio, thousands of people are expected to rally against the agenda being pushed by Gov. John Kasich and many Republican lawmakers.

CWA District 4 Vice President Seth Rosen, who helped launch the coalition, is urging CWA members to turn out in force for the 5 p.m. rally, and bring their friends and family.

"The May 5th rally will be an opportunity to unite the broad opposition to the Kasich agenda," Rosen said. "Students, workers, community activists and environmentalists will be standing up together. Uniting to win is the best response to the Kasich administration's divide-and-conquer tactics."

The rally also will help further the petition campaign to put a referendum on the November ballot to overturn Kasich's union-busting bill, which lawmakers passed last month.

Thousands of people, including hundreds of CWA members, have turned out for trainings around the state to learn the rules about gathering petition signatures. Activists are trying to collect at least 400,000 signatures in order to ensure that they have the necessary 231,000 valid signatures to put the issue before voters.
