How can I be sure Unity@Mobility voting will be conducted fairly?

Ballot Point Election Services has been conducting Union Elections for many years. They have a proven system that keeps elections fair, efficient, secret and transparent.

Ballot Point Security:

  • Certified to be Hack-Proof: As an ongoing process, BallotPoint utilizes an independent auditing firm – Aerstone – to verify that our system is hack-proof.  Aerstone, experts in the field of cyber-security, attempts to compromise the BallotPoint system. After completing their most recent audit their Executive Summary stated:

"To summarize, the security posture of the BallotPoint Election System is effective in protecting the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of on line elections. The processes, configurations, and security controls of the election system were successful in preventing the assessment team from gaining unauthorized access to election data, election systems, gain the ability to illegally cast votes, or disrupt the voting process while simulating standard [and unauthorized] voting members."

Furthermore, Aerstone verifies that even persons with administrative privileges cannot alter any election data that could change or interrupt the voting process, cannot compromise the secret ballot process, or obtain election results prior to a ballot being closed and officiated.

  • Requires Secure/Encrypted Internet Connection: To ensure privacy, connections to the BallotPoint website always require secure sockets, or https – the same protocol used by banks and other services where confidential data is encrypted and transmitted across the Internet.
  • Meets W3C Coding Standards:  Coding standards are very important to ensure web pages look and function the same on all compliant browsers. All BallotPoint web pages have been verified against the W3C standard to ensure proper operation regardless of the compliant web browser used.

W3C is an acronym for the "World Wide Web Consortium." This is the organization responsible for designing the standards used for web-based programming. The idea is that if one codes their web-pages to this standard, that those pages will work with all compliant browsers (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, etc.).

No Scripting Errors: All Ballot Point web pages require the use of JavaScript – a programming language that runs in your web browser to create an enhanced user interface. Unfortunately, many web browsers by default turn off notifications to the user when a scripting error is detected. This can be a cause for concern, since scripts stop running once an error is detected by the browser. Many web authors rely, or just don't care, that web browsers don't report scripting errors to their users.

At BallotPoint, we always verify there are NO scripting errors in our pages. Any scripting error could cause the loss of security or the rendering of information on the screen that should be left confidential.

  • No Cookies/No Tracking Navigation History: The BallotPoint system DOES NOT track your movement on the web or store anything, including cookies or web-pages in your Temporary Internet Files directory that may be used to identify you or how you voted.
