IBEW Local 503 members in Monroe, New York, voted on March 15 to ratify a new three year contract with Frontier by a 4 to 1 margin.
This was extremely tough bargaining due to the tough economic climate currently facing the whole nation.
Some of the positive gains in the new contract included increased wages, increased benefits, stipends for uniform cleaning, and job security language that did not previously exist. The gains were made due to some sacrifices in the areas of increased medical costs and layoffs with some of the jobs being moved to another IBEW local.
“While being far from a perfect contract, we believe we presented the best contract available under the current market conditions and it appears clear that our members felt it was a pact they would use to chart their next few years in our industry,” stated the IBEW 503 website after the contract was ratified by its members.
