New House Resolution in Support of Efforts to Eliminate Pediatric AIDS

On Thursday, May 10th, The co-chairs of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus - Reps Trent Franks (R-AZ), Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Jim McDermott (D-WA) – introduced a resolution “Recognizing the potential for the virtual elimination of pediatric HIV and AIDS and keeping HIV positive mothers alive.”

EGPAF assisted in the development of this resolution and helped secure a group of bi-partisan original co-sponsors in advance of introduction.  EGPAF also pushed out an advocacy alert to approximately 7,000 advocates Wednesday morning— advocates were asked to “take action” through pedaids.org and amothersfight.org to e-mail their members of Congress and ask for co-sponsorship of the resolution.

As of Friday May 11th about 150 advocates took action reaching nearly 100 bi-partisan Capitol Hill offices. Our latest update from hill staff has us at 18 co-sponsors, including 3 Republicans.

EPGAF will continue to push for additional co-sponsors as long as possible and use the resolution as a way to engage more policymakers in this discussion through the AIDS 2012 Conference.
