Members of CWA's National Committee on Civil Rights and Equity at work this week on their 2011 convention report.
Members of CWA's National Committee on Civil Rights and Equity met at headquarters this week to discuss the critical issues that will comprise their report for the 2011 CWA Convention in Las Vegas in July.
The report annually reviews CWA's progress in civil and human rights, how the union's campaigns are advancing those rights, and what more needs to be done.
"The committee's work is linked to promoting our union's overall mission and the three sides of the CWA Triangle," said Alfonso Pollard, CWA director for human rights and politics. "Some of the critical issues that impact the diverse communities we serve include broadband access, T-Mobile, the assault on collective bargaining rights, higher education as a path to equality and our ongoing work with allies and partners such as the NAACP, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus."
Members also work with local Civil Rights and Equity Committees, local Women's Committees and the CWA Minority Caucus "for guidance on how best to maintain CWA's goals of equity and inclusiveness," Pollard said.
Committee members, one from each CWA district, are: Gloria Middleton, Local 1180; William Steele, Local 2222, Hector Capote, Local 3122; Gloria Llamas, Local 4123; Audry Brown, Local 6016; Michael Lynch, Local 7800; Martin Ervin Greenidge, Local 9586; and Michael Biddle, Local 13100.
