Organizing gains

Local 31003 won an NLRB election to represent 6 Thomson Reuters Magazine editorial writers in New York City. The vote was 5 to 1.

This is a breakthrough for the local, since this is the first inroad into the non-union 18th floor. This potentially opens up more leads for the local. The usual management-led captive audience meetings did not stop people from voting in the union. Organizer Alanna Stone and Secretary-Treasurer Peter Szekely worked on this campaign.

Local 4622 received voluntary recognition for a unit of 4 people at Pro-union Financial Strategies.  Local 84755 received voluntary recognition for a unit of 11 people from PAE & Associates, Inc. (a water treatment plant construction contractor).  Local 4310 negotiated a voluntary accretion of a unit of about 20 people at Ametek--this is the second time the Local pushed through an accretion with this company in less than a year.
