Report from CWA Local 1152 on organizing against TPP and Fast Track

Report From Syracuse Local 1152 on Organizing Against TPP and Fast Track

So this is a week where we are at the very edge of this battle and I thought it was appropriate to follow up and report back on Syracuse's efforts to try to halt TPA for the TPP.  I was on the February 19th Town Hall call describing our plan of action locally (Local 1152 and Local 1123) and I am happy to report that our TPP event went over well and our letter writing campaign was a success.  Although we fell short of our goal of collecting 500 letters, we did collect 384, hand-delivered them to Congressman John Katko's office, and we formally met with him yesterday, where he advised us that he would be voting against TPA.  I don't think Congressman Katko was someone we originally thought would vote against TPA and ultimately, no matter what his motivation is for voting this down, I am happy that we can go back to our members that contributed to this cause and let them know they made a difference.

I'm nervous as hell.  I can't be sure how this is going to go and I’m sure if it doesn't go our way we will all be crushed.  But before there is a decision one way or the other hopefully you will get this message and be able to enjoy a few of the pictures from our event.  In our field you have to take your victories where you can get them and seeing our members and coalition partners standing up and fighting for themselves is a win in and of itself.

Larry, thank you for championing this effort as CWA certainly was at the forefront of this battle in regards to labor.  Billy and Laura, thank you for bringing the letter writing idea and materials to the T&T Conference in Phoenix that inspired all our actions in Syracuse.
