Unity@Mobility Happenings

District 3 Contract Negotiations

Right now, the biggest event for Unity@Mobility is the District 3 contract negotiation. For the nine southeast states that make up District 3, this is our opportunity to bargain for a better contract. And for Unity@Mobility members nationwide, this is our chance to move the line forward on so many important issues.

Support your D3 team!

The bargaining committee -- made up of four mobility workers plus two District 3 Staff -- kicked off negotiations in Atlanta, GA on January 23, 2014. For the three mobility workers, it’s their first time at the bargaining table. The team spent a week training, including both team building and preparing the proposals to ensure that they’ll be ready for anything at the table.

You can show your solidarity for D3 by sending a picture of you and your coworkers holding up three fingers to unityactivist@cwa-union.org.

We’ll be sharing the pictures with the bargaining committee and posting them at the Unity@Mobility web page and on Facebook

And to stay updated, on all the bargaining, you can sign up here.

Mobility Leadership Conference and National Bargaining Council Meeting

Last November, over 220 Mobility Leaders and CWA Staff came together in Portland, Oregon for the Mobility Leadership Conference. Over the few days, brothers and sister from around the country had the opportunity to make invaluable connections with members from other locals.

Workshops during the conference included sessions on using social media to organize, movement building, the Trans-Pacific Partnership and how to develop and execute better new member orientations.

We also heard from T-Mobile workers and updated information on the organizing campaign. Organizing other wireless workers is key to building more power for Mobility workers as they are currently, with a couple of exceptions, the only organized wireless company. We are committed to changing that.

The conference concluded with the first-ever Mobility National Bargaining Council. This meeting set an agenda of National Bargaining items that are of interest to all workers in Mobility. Our goal is to make sure members know the importance of every round of negotiations and the impact they have, regardless of whether it is your specific negotiations.

Some of the items discussed included wages, limits on mandatory overtime, more notice on schedule changes and bargaining the commissions plan.

All of the items will be part of the package of proposals presented by the D3 bargaining team. They also have Local items that have been gathered from the Mobility workers within District 3.

Unity@Mobility Campaign

Over 1,350 mobility workers have been trained through our Unity@Mobility campaign and there are already 51+ more trainings scheduled!

The four-hour training is designed to raise the knowledge level of mobility workers about the value of having a union contract, what their rights are, and how we can build more power in the workplace. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.

The goal is to train 10% of Mobility members and at least one worker in every retail store (approximately 3,300 people) by the end of March 2014.    There are over 40 trainers that are working with Local unions to schedule the trainings. If you are interested please send an e-mail to unityactivist@cwa-union.org.
