We Stood Up for the Right to Sit

Are you an AT&T Mobility retail worker? If so, you might have noticed a $250 “settlement” on your paycheck in January.

You should know that your union made it happen.

Here’s the backstory: For years, AT&T Mobility retail stores required workers to stand for an entire shift. For hours on end, day after day, you were on your feet and working until your entire body ached.

CWA fought to change this preposterous rule, and in winter 2013, we finally reached an agreement with AT&T to change this unfair rule and give workers the chance to lighten their load.

Since then, AT&T has redesigned more than 1,400 retail stores to allow workers to sit down if a customer also wants to sit down. And more stores are undergoing this change every month.

Plus, the settlement also required AT&T to pay out $7 million to all employees — or $250 per retail employee. If you work in retail at a Mobility store, that’s the $250 payment you recently received on your paycheck.

This settlement reflects the power of our union. We couldn’t sit until we stood up together for our rights. A big thank you goes out to the team that helped secure this victory!
