Here's what you need to know if you're voting in Utah in 2012:

VOTER ID REQUIREMENTS

You must present valid voter identification to the poll worker before voting. Acceptable ID includes one valid form of photo ID that shows your name or two different forms of identification that show your name and current address.

You need one ID from the following list:

  • A valid Utah driver license;
  • A valid ID card issued by the state or a branch, department or agency of the United States;
  • A valid Utah permit to carry a concealed weapon;
  • A valid U.S. passport; or
  • A valid tribal ID card, whether or not the card includes a photograph of the voter

OR two forms of ID from the following list:

  • A current utility bill or copy thereof dated within 90 days before the election;
  • A bank or other financial account statement, or legible copy thereof;
  • A certified birth certificate;
  • A valid Social Security card;
  • A check issued by the state or federal government or legible copy thereof;
  • A paycheck from the voter's employer, or legible copy thereof;
  • A valid Utah hunting or fishing license;
  • A valid U.S. military ID card;
  • Certified naturalization documents (NOT a green card);
  • A certified copy of court records showing the voter's adoption or name change;
  • A Bureau of Indian Affairs card;
  • A tribal treaty card;
  • A valid Medicaid or Medicare or Electronic Benefits Transfer card;
  • A valid ID card issued by a local government within the state;
  • A valid ID card issued by an employer;
  • A valid ID card issued by a college, university, technical school or professional school within the state; or
  • A current Utah vehicle registration.

EARLY VOTING

To vote early, you must be registered 30 days before the election. Early voting locations are subject to change. For information on early voting polling locations, go to: http://vote.utah.gov/early-voting/.

REGISTERING TO VOTE

If you have a Utah driver's license or Utah ID card, you can register online at: https://secure.utah.gov/voterreg/index.html. You must register at least 15 days before the election. To vote early, you must register 30 days before the election.

If registering by mail, you must provide a Utah driver's license number, a Utah ID number or the last four digits of your Social Security number.  Your voter registration forms must be postmarked
at least 30 days before an election in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election. You can obtain the form for mail-in voter registration at: http://elections.utah.gov/Media/Default/Documents/Voter_Forms/VoterRegistrationForm.pdf or by using the National Voter Registration form, found at: www.eac.gov/voter_resources/register_to_vote.aspx.

Once completed, mail the form to your county clerk's office; you can find that information at: http://vote.utah.gov/county-clerk/.

If registering in person at your county clerk's office, you must provide a Utah driver's license number, a Utah ID number or the last four digits of your Social Security number. You must register at least 15 days before the election. To vote early, you must register 30 days before the election.

ABSENTEE VOTING

Any person who is registered to vote may vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballot applications may be found at: www.elections.utah.gov/Media/Default/Documents/VoterForms/absentee%20form.pdf.

Absentee voters casting a ballot for the first time in Utah must include a copy of their identification when returning their absentee ballot. For regular absentee voting, the clerk should receive this application no later than the Friday before the election. For voters who are overseas, the clerk should receive this application no later than 20 days before the election.

For persons voting an absentee ballot at the office of the clerk or recorder, the clerk should receive this application no later than the Friday before the election.
