Here's what you need to know if you're voting in Wyoming in 2012:
DO I NEED ID TO VOTE?
You do not need ID when voting in person or by mail after having registered in person, or after having registered by mail and having voted in a Wyoming federal election.
WHAT IF I PLAN TO REGISTER ON ELECTION DAY?
You need acceptable ID to register to vote. If you are registering on Election Day, you need to bring your ID. Acceptable ID includes:
- Wyoming driver's license;
- A driver's license from a state other than Wyoming;
- ID card issued by a local, state or federal agency;
- U.S. passport;
- School ID; and
- Military ID.
CAN I REGISTER AHEAD OF TIME?
Yes. You can register in person before the election or you can register by mail--both require acceptable ID.
1. Registering in person
- You can register in the office of the county clerk or town clerk within your county of residence.
- You can also print out a form online at: http://soswy.state.wy.us/Forms/Elections/General/vrapp.pdf and hand-deliver it to the county clerk in your county of residence. The form must be signed in front of the county clerk.
2. Registering by mail
Voters who are not currently in Wyoming or who cannot go to the county clerk's office may register to vote by mail. Go to: http://soswy.state.wy.us/Forms/Elections/General/vrapp.pdf to download a voter registration form and get detailed instructions.
ABSENTEE VOTING INFORMATION
In Wyoming, any qualified voter may apply for an absentee ballot at any time during a calendar year in which the election is held, but not on the day of the
election.
Voters can vote an absentee ballot:
- In person in the office of the county clerk 40 days before an election; or
- By requesting an absentee ballot be mailed to them by either calling or e-mailing the county clerk. When requesting an absentee ballot, please provide your name, residence address, mailing address and birth date or Social Security number. Once your information is verified, a ballot will be sent to you in the mail.
Absentee ballots must be received by the county clerk no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots can be returned in person or by mail.
HOW DO I FIND MY POLLING PLACE?
The Polling Place Locator is available to assist you in determining where you should go to cast your vote. It is available at: http://soswy.state.wy.us/Elections/PollPlaceLookup.aspx.
The Polling Place Locator provides directions to your polling place; a map of your polling place; election district information; and county clerk information. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
