NOKIA BARGAINING REPORT #4

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Company and your Bargaining Team met again today. The Uunion continued to press the Company on issues and concerns we have with the quality of service our customers will receive with their scheme to go to a total outsourced Installation Field Force model. The Union provided instances where the people employed by these contractors have gone weeks without pay and in some cases may be on government assistance. The Company’s reply:  “I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. If someone can be collecting social security, welfare, food stamps, as an example, while working why is that a negative thing?” This is the corporate mentality we are dealing with.

The Company re-passed their original proposal to eliminate the bargaining unit by this time next year. The Union rejected it out of hand.

The Union made a comprehensive proposal that we feel will be mutually beneficial to both parties. The Company needs time to review our proposal and fulfill additional data requests. The Bargaining Team will meet with the Company bargainers again Wednesday, June 20th. In the meantime, several meeting have been scheduled on Monday and Tuesday next week with John Hickey (Vice President, HR/Benefits) and Tom Agelopoulos (Director, – North America) to discuss the pension plan, Retiree healthcare and Installation Field Forces.

Let’s be clear - this is not business as usual. This is a fight to protect our jobs, our livelihood and our retirement security. We need to let the Company know that we will not go away without a fight. It’s time to mobilize and stand up against Nokia’s scheme.
