The Power of PAF - CWA's Political Action Fund

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Karen LeeMou and I am a Chief Steward from CWA Local 1105. I was one of the Verizon employees fighting for my life during that long 45 day strike. As a witness to how the CWA Political Action Fund (PAF) helped put an end to that gruesome strike and secure our jobs, I am compelled to unite and educate every member about the necessity of joining CWA PAF.

Everyone following the Verizon strike saw then Secretary of Labor, Thomas Perez, stepped up during a crucial point when Verizon and CWA/IBEW were at a standoff. He immediately made it clear that his intent was to help the parties resolve a dispute that was affecting thousands of workers, their families, and the company. His leadership and relationship with members of the CWA PAF committee caused the company and unions to return to the negotiating table, and resulted in an agreed upon contract. Brothers and sisters, this is the kind of political leader we need to support! One who will be our voice on a local, state and national level. One who defend issues that are important to us, like keeping good jobs in our communities, defending workers rights, paid sick time, family leave, healthcare, pensions and more.

For a second, think about what you would do if you were wrongfully fired from your job on the spot for simply asking your Vice President if he was serious about bargaining with the union. Unfortunately that's what happened to 22 Cable Vision employees. But this anti-union corporation did not know the amount of political power CWA gained by collectively joining together through CWA PAF. We had prominent regional political leaders and pro-worker candidates supporting the union like Senators Schumer and Gilliabrand along with many other local elected officials, showing up at picket lines all over New York City. Because of our collective power, the employees jobs were reinstated and a fair contract was negotiated. Now that's what I call a Political Action Fund VICTORY!

Lastly, Brothers and Sisters I really want you to think about how corporations and big businesses pour millions of dollars into political campaigns so they can elect political leaders to support their corporate greedy ideas. Look at the Koch brothers, they are notorious for spending an unlimited amount of money to influence the political process and have made it known they will not be satisfied until they are able to control the entire political process. Their sole agenda is to repeal every major piece of legislation that has been signed into law over the past 80 years that has protected the middle class, the elderly, the children, the sick, and the most vulnerable in this country, like you and me.

This is why we must unite and support the CWA Political Action Fund. See your union Steward for an application or simply sign up here. I promise you will feel proud to know that you joined the movement and contributed to the CWA Political Action Fund that works to pass policies and elect candidates that defend workers rights.

We will win against the corporate intent to break the middle class and unions all across the globe through politics and unity!

Solidarity,

Karen LeeMou
